It could work, the problem is: you also need the right citizens. With the ones that are around at the moment, it would not work.

Yes and no. Contrary to what others have said, there are many many international laws that are applied everyday by the United Nations and between governments that we don't know about - trade, postal delivery, vaccinations civil aviation, etc. We only hear about failures, and so people think that global governance isn't working. In fact, it's been an incredible success so far.
As for a global government, one would not create a government that would have to approve all national laws, but rather a federal system as used by many governments (not just the U.S.) but on a global scale. This would allow local, national, regional governments to continue as before, but with those problems unsolvable at the national level to be addressed by a democratically elected global government.
Imagine, a world community governed by a federal system of democratic global institutions accountable to the citizens of the world in their respective communities that fosters sustainable peace, justice and prosperity and promotes an active global citizenship and the recognition of inalienable and universal human rights, while respecting the diversity and autonomy of national and local communities.

You just have to look at the United Nations. A very laudable organisation, but does it really work? No and that is without any real control over individual countries.
It would be impossible and would fall down simply in the choosing of a leader.
It is inconceivable that America would go for anyone other than an American as Leader, and equally inconceivable that the middle East and the communist countries would go for an American so it would be dead in the water before it had a chance to swim.

Will not work. Western countries have too many laws and regulations it will soon be impossible to 'breathe' without the government's say so. Is this why the Muslims are fighting against the west 'cos they don't want to end up 'free' like us? It was alright for slavery to excist under certain 'lawful' countries. Makes you think, doesn't it?

The Bible tells about such a global government. It would be ruled by the anti-Christ and nobody would be able to purchase goods or services unless they had the "mark of the beast" upon their forehead or hand. People might scoff at this notion if they want to, but many of the prophecies in the Bible that are supposed to be fulfilled before the emergence of the anti-Christ have already been fulfilled or are being fulfilled as we speak. With the European Union, the reunification of Israel, the rebuilding of Babylon (today's Iraq, which prophecied would be rebuilt before the anti-Christ came), the 10 world powers coming into prominence and on and on it goes, the world stage is becoming ready for such a global government to take place. Sure, what you are describing would be wonderful. Sadly though, that is not what will happen. The world government that will one day take place will be one of supreme authoritarianism, brutality and loss of freedom as we know it.

If only.
We can't get along inside our own country; can you imagine all the different cultures trying to come up with a universal set of rules?
It's a nice fantasy, but a long way from fruition.

That would be lovely and it would be wonderful if it would or could happen.
It would be certainly hard because everyone can't get along all the time. It would be a miracle if we would quit fighting with one another!
