C- You cant change more than one thing at a time in an experiment, otherwise you won't know which of your variables led to the outcome, which means you can't make a definitive answer as to whether your hypothesis was correct or not.

Here's an example: Let's say you want to know the effect of temperature on a certain substance. On day 1 the temperature is 80f, on day 2 it's 71f, on day 3 it's 100f. But when you conduct your experiment you haven't paid any attention to the humidity of the various testing days. The humidity range has also varied widely -- some days in the 40% , some days in the 90%. When you look at your results, how do you know if the effects (if any) that you see are due to the temperature changes, or if they are due to the humidity? You can't. This is why you hear researchers say, "We have to control our variables..." otherwise you can't state a strong conclusion!
