Does anyone know if I can request to have a c-section in Texas? Will insurance cover it if it is not "medically required"?

I don't think a doctor will perform a c-section unless its needed. So no, you can not request to have one, unless you have already had one.

I believe that Insurance will cover it if you've had a previous c-section, but if this is your first, then it has to meet the "medical necessity" clause. I "elected" to have c-sections on the two births following my first...because the first was an "emergency" c-section...after 40 hours of labor! I also elected general anethesia! Blue Cross really hated me!

Depending on the insurance company I believe that most will cover the c-section if it is not "medically necessary". Call and talk to your insurance company to find out.

I don't know anything about insurance.

21 years ago I had a c-section for failure to progress.
17 years ago the dr. insisted that a VBAC was better for me and the baby, so after 2-1/2 hours I said that I wanted a c-section. They gave it to me, except I had general anesthesia because the epidural wasn't working.

If I went in today, I would say, Dr. Brown, I hired you to take care of me. I want a c-section and I expect you to give me one. Do you have any problems with that, because if you do, I'm changing doctors.

So are you asking that my premiums go up so that you can have an elective procedure?
