The company I work for has a network for all of these different people.
› Ability Network
› African American Network
› Asian Network
› GLAS
› Hispanic Associates Network
› Military Network
› Parents at Work
› Women's Network
But none for me. Is this right? Is it ok for my demographic not to be represented. I'm fine with these associates having their groups. But I feel excluded. Am I not entitled. I feel I could be passed over for promotion, what if my manager is a member of one of these groups and finds out I'm not. Maybe I won't be seen the same way. What do you think?

How would I be represented on the board of directors?? By the way the CEO fit into one of those groups too. I have no problem with that. But company sponsored groups organized based or race, sexual orientation, gender, or abilities? Isn't this wrong to do?

sorry more details. I'll stop soon. Alot of you are saying to form my own group. Clearly not possible. You know what would happen to me. It may be "correct" under the law. But in human terms of fairness. I'm simply not represented. I don't see how you can call that fair.

last one,
I have no fight with any of these groups. I believe and agree that no one person should be discriminated against for anything that they are.

I think you have every right to start one...

Here's the thing - companies have these groups (usually) because some employees got together and wanted things to change...
It's easier for the company to entertain them with a "social group" which has no legal abilities than it would be if they actually unionized...

It would be funny if you started hanging up posters for a white, straight, male bowling night... because legally, they would have a hell of a time firing you for it....

As a gay person who believes in TOTAL equality, I would question any company that allowed social groups for gays and not social groups for straights or whites.
Fair is Fair.

(That being said... I would not feel too comfortable around people who ACTUALLY joined these groups...)

Bill - the title you give using the word "advancement" is actually illegal for a company social group in the united states... it implies that you want white people to achieve more in the company than others... and that is racial discrimination... it has to be thought of as a "social" network and not as a superiority contest... get it?

The NAACP would never fly as a company sponsored event... its membership could never be tied to employment in any fashion.

Finally, in response to your last details...
You are right - the social consciousness that helps gays, women, blacks and other minorities to level the playing field is not "fair"... but to us it is necessary... One day, these kinds of liberal programs and clubs will no longer be necessary to battle the "good ol boys" for our rights to live as normal people... I can't wait for that day!

Furthermore - The Military Network and GLAS are at opposite ends of the scale... You can't be gay and proud and join the military under todays laws... so you can see the reason for both needing equal treatment.

Most Gay Straight Alliances at high schools must open membership to straight students as well in order to be allowed under the law.

Unfortunately, you are in the majority. You are free to form an association with in the company I assume. Members of the classes that you describe have historically been discriminated against. Therefore to correct that, the laws and courts have protected their status.

If you believe you are a victim of reverse discrimination, that is usually against company policy and could be actionable. I really don't think you have anything to worry about. You are hard pressed to find an employer that qualifies under the Federal Code that would risk a protected status from being the basis of an employment decision.

As I said form your own group. Check with HR or management to make sure it is okay and go for it. If they don't want it on the premises, then meet some where else.

Same reason there is a Gay Bowling Night, a Black Bowling Night, a Wheelchair Bowling Night, and a Ladies Bowling Night -- but no Hetero White Able-bodied Men's Bowling Night. Because EVERY night is Hetero White Able-bodied Men's Bowling Night.

However in instances where whites actually are a minority -- perhaps the Asian Restaurant Owners Association? -- I think it's perfectly acceptable for Whites to form their own group.

How about making your own network if not find a new job. IF you feel that someone will take your position becuase you are not standing up or fighting for it go to a new company or start your own.

You should start your own.

Committee for the Advancement of Caucasian Americans.
You could abbreviate it as CACA.

Sincerely,
Another White Guy
