What is a social cause or global issue that needs greater attention and what are some steps to address it?

I have to write an essay for my MBA application. The full question reads: "What social cause or global issue do you think deserves greater attention in order to make the world a better place? And what steps might be taken to further that cause or address the issue?"

I would like some ideas of what to talk about, preferably things that are really "off the radar". I'm trying to avoid using global warming, poverty, or any other cliche things. Also, any information to learn about it and ways to address/solve it would be great.

Voter apathy. Seriously, more people vote on American Idol than in any local, county, state and national elections. Then they complain that politicians lie, cheat and steal money!

I might recommend to you the possibility of writing the paper on Human Equality Rights. I feel that this is a great beginning in the process of working together to solve other issues. I believe that people are starting to take the stance that Americans are known to be problem solvers and in providing equality it bonds individuals together as a means to work to attack and achieve greater social goals. I recommend possibly just searching out examples of such human equality issues and they're impact on society. I hope I have been of some help to you.
