No, you should just be introducing them to rice cereal now.

most doctors and health care providers would say noo way! but then again the child is already six months and CAN have normal food, so long as it is not heavily seasoned or harsh on digestive system....If you are going to give instant mashed potatoes to a 6 mo old, I woud reccommend Waterring down the called for ingredient list so that it is just a tad bit thicker than the childs regular baby food.......at six months i'm guessing this child is already on step 2 or beginning stage 3 in baby food.......be sure to mix some of the babys regular food in w/ the potato mixture and its fine.

I would stick to the cereals geared towards babies...but in a pinch...yes. Some boxes of instant potatoes have the recipe for babies on it...or used to.

I vaguely recall the Christmas Story as including the Holy Family, the Three Wise Men and the Star of Bethlehem, but I cannot for the life of me recall any mention of chicken gravy.

'Hipp' do a mash potato with rosemary that you add baby milk/water to - this is very similar so i can't see it being too much of a problem - i think the dried food specifically for babies would probably be safer bet though!

Nope. Babies need watery foods to help them slide the food down. Besides that, it's very unhealthy to serve your baby butter and salt. It's really your baby, so it's your choice. If you do decide to feed your baby mashed potatoes, you can at least make it from scratch. You don't want your baby to have high cholesterol and become obese because of that.

Yes, you can. At 6 months old, dairy containing products are safe, as per my sons pedi, just not STRAIGHT milk. YOU control how much salt/butter go into them, so those concerns are moot. YOU control how thick they are, so that concern is also pointless. And to think that JARRED nasties are better for your child than somethign you have control of what goes into it is just insane. If the baby can get their hands into it, let them feed themselves even. Self feeding is FAR safer for a baby than beign spoon fed by mom or dad as they control where it goes in their mouths and how much goes in.

those are pretty high in salt. I'd avoid them. You can always microwave a fresh potato and mash it up yourself. Plus, a 6 month old isn't ready for regular milk yet.

there are baby foods in a jar called "potatoes"--do those first...after he has tried milk and butter and all of the other ingredients in the instant potatoes, then try em

Your baby can now eat any table food that he or she can chew (stay on formula to drink after a meal, though). I would make the potatoes just a little milky, because if they're too thick he/she may choke.

No, they are not able to digest milk yet, so this would mess up the baby's stomach.
