It’s time to take your bath Eli
(“Humph! No way! No how!”)
“I’ve got better things to do
Right now!”

“My finger painting portrait,
Needs some paint here and there.
And I’m not finished yet,
Tossing sand into the air,

That spare tire over there
Needs to be moved out on the lawn,
I can get it by myself you know
I’m really very strong,

Now then, I’ve got to catch that toad
That just came hopping cross the road
I’m going to add him to my frog collection
And my puppy Max (just like mommy and dad)
Wants some of my affection

My matchbox cars need roads to drive on
Houses and a railway too
There’s just no time to take a bath
I’ve got better things to do!

Like running and jumping
And skipping to a beat
Eww, what’s this I stepped in?
Max’s poo is on my feet!
(Uck!)
I would’ve been done with my portrait
If that frog hadn’t gotten away
Now my colors are all mixed up
And there’s sand all over the place!

I’ve got to move the tire back
My daddy told me too
Then mommy says “Eli, you need a bath!”
I’ve got better things to do!

I’ve got to catch that toad
That’s now hopping towards the road
I still want to add him to my frog collection
“Oh max, Go on! Get down boy!
There’s no time now for my affection!

Arug! What has happened to my matchbox cars?
My houses and railways too?
There’s just no time to take a bath
“Oh Max, why do you poo?

Hmm, who’s this coming down the road?
Auntie Mabel, Rex and Rene?
What could they be doing here?
It’s not a holiday.

Wait a minute. It’s my Birthday!
They must be here for me!
Oh now I want to take a bath!
I need to go find mommy!

I guess after I take a bath
There will still be lots to do
Like opening up my presents
And eating cake and ice-cream too!

Shad, only two really awkward stanzas...both with the dog. Suggest editing the first one so it reads:

Now I’ve got to catch that toad
That just came hopping cross the road
I’m going to add him to my frog collection
And my puppy Max wants more affection

Do something similar to the second dog stanza...I can't see it here because it's in the additional info section, but you have the idea.

keep writing...cute little piece :)

i love this poem Shad, it kinda reminds me of childhood. when kids are too busy playing and messing up with themselves that bath time is always a struggle. they thought taking a bath is just a waste of time, they're better off playing than splashing water on themselves. can i use this poem for my daughter's school homework or school activity? it's just lovely!

I like this poem
and it describes
a power struggle
with parents telling their
children to take a bath.
