Mow after the sun goes down or vary early morning. It is cooler then and a lot more pleasant times of the day to be out in the garden

clear an area in front of the rose bushes of leaves, grass clippings etc. and set a very, very small fire of small sticks and a damp cloth. the smoke will drive the bees away while you mow, just make sure the fire doesn't get too big. it won't take much smoke at all to drive the bees away for awhile.

I doubt it's bees... more likely it's ground hornets with a nest underground near the roses.... check it out and see... if it is hornets, you'll need some Sevin dust and a good view of the hole they'[re using to get into the nest.... come back and answer and I'll tell you how to be rid of them..... but you won't finish mowing today..............
