So the sharks start to make a little splash in the UFA after they secured Marleau for another three years.

I guess the real question is where will Roenick play on already deadly lines (marleau & Thornton). Play him on Patty's, or Joe. OR Put him on the third or fourth and make a bigger brute squad?

I believe the sharks still have cap space (Roenicks signed for $500,000 dollars) any guesses on any other splash or will wilson hold off and tweak his lines mid season?

Snoop, they signed him to bring a bit more depth in leadership to the team. Off the top of my head, Thorton's the only player who has the most experience, so Roenick can compliment his leadership. Okay, this is the only analogy I can think of. Gary Roberts, who should, by all rights, be a captain on any team, is complimenting Crosby on the Penguins. Same thing with Owen Nolan signing with the Flames. Both Nolan and Roenick will be third or fourth line fowards, nothing more.

Same I'm a huge Roenick fan. This isn't just because I'm a Sharks fan, because I've been a fan of him since he was in Philly. He isn't in the prime of his career anymore he plays 4th line, but if Nabby plays strong during the playoffs they probably could go all the way. I think they should take the season easy, the President Trophy is not going to count as much as the Stanley Cup. So best luck goes out to J.R. and the Sharks.

The Roenick signing surprises me for this reason: the Sharks are a contending team, so why brng in a guy who is past his prime? Contenders usually bring in players who can either help them or provide leadership, and Roenick does neither. At best he is a third-liner with scoring touch. At worst he is the albatross he was with Los Angeles two seasons ago. Things should be interesting in Silicon Valley, at least!

Dougie was Roenick's mentor when he entered the league. It'll be nice if Ron can find a place for him so that 500 goals becomes a reality.

Note: The news going around the league right now is that there is a belief that once Roenich hits 500 goals, he'll retire and that Doug was the only one who would offer him a contract on that basis.

This is like signing a guy who is on life support. Roenick will cry if hes not on line 1 or just not play.

Roenicks career is basically over as far as any real accomplishments go, but when you get someone who has scored 1200 pts for $500,000/year I think any team who needs someone to round out their 4th line is getting a really good deal (or 3rd line if they want a scoring 3rd line instead of a checking 3rd line).

hmmm . . . thats a pretty small splash if you ask me

hopefully they dont try and limit his playing time when he is sucking ***, cause then he's gonna start being a prick again . . .

additionally: to those below, i dont really think they are expecting him to be a big contributor numberswise, but rather a veteran influence esp in the playoffs where the sharks have been mysteriously not the explosive team they seem throughout the regular season the past few years

Roenick is way over done in his career...his last years stats prove that.

Poor Sharks...another year of swimming alone in the water.

I don't see him on the top 2 lines, barring injuries. I think that Pittsburgh should have signed him to work with Crosby, Malkin and Staal. They have oodles of talent, but they could learn a lot from a seasoned veteran. I suppose they already have Recchi and Roberts for that.
