I started doing signs with my son at about 8 months. It is remarkable how soon they pick it up! I always signed as I said the word. With words like more and please I would sign more and say it as a question, then I would grab his little hands and make them say more! He had about 5 signs by 9 months! Babies are amazing! Good luck!

If you need to teach it by all means start when they are able to notice things. Like when they get the concept of words. Like when you say momma or mommy do the sign. And when you say no do the sign too.But I wouldn't teach it unless it was necessary.

I discovered sign language as a toddler - 2 of my grandparents are deaf so it replaced into purely something I discovered as a manner to be waiting to communicate with them, I additionally did phonics around 3 years old. I dont think of that's a foul situation in any respect. i'm making plans to instruct my toddler some spanish, some straight forward signs and indications ( like hungry, definite, no, milk, etc) and get the Your toddler Can study application. a brilliant form of people have reported that the Your toddler Can study application is extremely stable, and that it is no longer purely sight analyzing. So I plan to start up with that and pass to Phonics as they become older. mom and pa are quite person-friendly signs and indications to do, and you should probable instruct a photograph of 'daddy' and do the sign with him some situations an afternoon.

same way you teach a puppy i guess.

trying looking up sign language with monkeys, that where they got the idea anyway.

but yes as you say the word you also use the sign. and use the sign EVERY time you say the word etc.

my grandson was taught in his preschool class and it worked for him. they started about a year old but I have heard you can start as early as 6 months, I don't believe thay can concieve at that age but I guess it woudn't hurt.

I think you can start using some signs around 6 months, but I don't think they catch on until much later. My son started doing the "more" sign at 12 months. I think you should start with a sign that is motivating to your child. We started with "more." Everytime he wanted more food, we would use this sign & say "more" until he picked up on it. It took many weeks of us doing the sign until he actually did it, so you have to be patient with it.

Repetition of signs with words as you do things, just like you do for teaching speach.

When you wake up, sign good morning as you say it.
When you eat, sign for eating and the different foods.
Sign please and thank you.

There are some great baby sign videos and books you can check out at the library to help reinforce.

Maybe you need to research this a little more thoroughly. I think the first word you show them is eat, or milk. I would think you would start immediately, since they begin learning our language as soon as they hear, still in the womb.

I started at around 4 months, with just a few... and I did the sign and spoke aloud the word simultaneously.

At first I only did one "milk" for nursing... once she started doing it at like 8 months we started adding a few more.
I used this free online picture dictionary as my guide:

u can start at ne time!...when ur baby is first born their brains r spunges absorbing EVERYTHING in...so if u start it right away ur baby might be able to sign sumthing by 3 months... but introduce the signs simple and slowly..like 1 or 2 at a time...like food, bath, wet bum,..simple things... good luck!
