If your child came home from school saying "we had a test today and I got 7 out of 18 questions right!"

Would you consider it a passing or a failing grade?

Wow... it's amazing how many people didn't go to the link and actually thought this question was about my child... Very sad.

But on the other hand, even those slow folks agree that it's a failing grade.

thegubmint: I think it's quite funny how you types who's philosophy usually fits on a bumpersticker "with us or against us" etc... get all nuanced when presented with the simple question of success in Iraq.

It's a failure.

Every report and study that hasn't originated from the white house or a conservative think-tank ranks it as a failure. It was a HUGE mistake to go it, and this administration just can't seem to stop making it worse.

Your question is simplistic, the link is not. The study indicates that 11 of 18 have not been met, but the article fails to quantify how close the 11 objectives are to completion. It could be that the goals are nearly met, but not quite. It's not as simple as a pass/fail, like your community college classes were.

Depends on how you score the test. A omission of a fact for deceptive purposes. Say each question had 10 parts and of you got all or none. If the student only missed 11 parts then they failed but they got 169 out of 180 parts correct. Is that better than someone you got 15 of 18 correct but actually missed 30 parts or 150 out of 180.

Hmmmmmm!!!!!!!!!

Hello,
You have to do the math. You have to take the number of questions and divide by the maximum number of points he or she could get out of the test which is 100.
100/18= which makes each question wrong worth (5.5 rounding off to 6 points.)

Your child got 11 questions wrong out of 18, so
100-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6= 34% average.

34% average is failing if each question is worth 6 points.

Anything under 70% is failing!
70% and UP is Passing!

Good Luck!

Since that is a 39% I would consider that a failing grade.

Its a failure and if as a parent you don't see that then you are most likely the cause of your child's failing grades.

This is how it is in Bush's world, Frettless.
Up is down, black is white, failing is considered passing.

It's yet another F - as in FAILURE, for BushCo's Iraq debacle.
