I remember needing a small ironing board (sleeve board) for my daughter's clothes. that's something you would never think of for a baby shower. what are some things you needed that might not be thought of for gift ideas?

lol... well not so much for babies as it was for my husband and I during our daughter's first month or two:

paper plates

Depending on who's shower I'm attending... I actually include a pack of paperplates & utensils w/ my regular (usually breastfeeding related) gift.

i just had a baby shower a few months ago. my daughter is now 2 months. i recieve all the typical stuff. i have found that i DON'T use the majority of the gifts i recieved. you think you need it all and then when the baby gets here you can't find time to use half the stuff that cost the most.
stuff i DON'T use:
wipes warmer
bottle warmer
diswasher accessories for nipples/bottles
bottle sanitizer

stuff i DO use...a lot!
diaper genie
crib sheets/blankets
monitor
diaper bag
baby swing
bathtime stuff like soap, lotion, baby powder
and of course the obvious things like baby clothes, burp rags.

i would avoid buying baby bottles, simply because my baby would only take one type of bottle nipple. she's just now learning to take different shapes of nipples. she wouldnt even take my boob! ha!
you CANNOT go wrong buying diapers. our supply of diapers from my shower is just now running out and they have been a life saver!

one gift that i think would be neat that i really would of used is a gift certificate to a portrait studio that does a lot of work with babies. maybe just a studio inside a mall. i know where i live a place called Portrait Innovations is popular. that way they can have photos of their newborn taken. i just got around to having my babies pics taken and shes not hardly a newborn any more! i would have though if i had a certificate or something like that.

(p.s. this was my 1st baby and the amount of clothes i recieved was crazy! i washed and ironed them all too! haha! i knew i would have time to do it after she got here and it was probably the only time i'd ever iron any of her clothes but i was so excited for her to get here and i wanted everything to be perfect so i went ahead and ironed them all and hung them up in her closet :) i'm glad i'm not the only one! i didn't even know they made little ironing board! wish i would have!)

Wow you ironed your babies clothes? Go you! I would never have the time or inclination to care if she wore something wrinkly. She spends all day laying down anyways. It'll wrinkle.

The only things I didnt get were baby monitors and a diaper bag. LOVED the diaper genie, bath stuff, clothes, diapers, etc that I got.

Extra crib sheets would have been nice. Or maybe one of the toys that attaches to her car seat. Or the mirror that attaches to the back seat so i can watch her. I've bought both those things recently (She's 4 months.)

Lots and lots of batteries.
The swing, bouncy chair, musical toys for the crib....everything takes batteries and I never had enough!
