I am a new mommy so if anyone has any advice its aprecated.

I was just wondering. Last night was our fist night home out of the hospital. I belive my milk is starting to come in. Last night my baby woke every hour to eat and nursed at least 15 minutes sometimes more and went back to sleep. Is this normal, every hour? practicly like clock work?

Thank You in advance.

It can be! I remember in the early days feeling like my little bird was always eating...because she was!

I suggest finding a really comfy place-keep snacks and loads of water for you nearby. Just settle in and feed feed feed! This will all level out as he or she gets older but for now, you are on duty!

I never thought I'd say this, but I really recommend co-sleeping. My nights were 100% better when I realized that I could just whip out a boob, she'd snack, and I could sleep!

Best-
DN

Congrats on the new baby and your decision to breastfeed!! Newborns will nurse every two or three hours for 10 to 45 minutes at a time. But forget about "normal" ok? ,those are just averages, every child is unique and you will learn your childs own signals when he/she is hungry and when he/she is full. Take your time and offer the other breast when done with the first. Breastmilk is easily digested and it's very common for your baby to be hungry again in an hour or two.Patience and relaxation will help both you and your baby and your milk will flow easier. It is a wonderful , natural and healthy gift you are sharing with your baby, for what it's worth-I'm very proud of you.

Yes normal. Especially if your milk is coming in... she's also going to hit a couple of growth spurts in the next 2-3 weeks... so those will also be increased frequency days.

In the first month, anything goes as far as breastfeeding... your milk is just gettting established and your baby knows how to do this - all you have to do is let her/him!!

here's an awesome site, the lady who runs it is an IBCLC, an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. Much of her reaserch is published work, so she's not making this stuff up - though she'll often add a story about a particular client she's had.

Very normal! Your baby is growing and will keep on growing.

I wish my nurses had told me that, but they didn't, and my mother, who didn't breastfeed, yelled at me and told me my son was not getting enough milk from me. She convinced me to give him formula, which became his main diet. BM was only a "snack" here and there and the whole supply and demand idea of breastfeeding was never established with me. I was so misinformed and I've been regretting it since he was born, which was 3 months ago. On the upside, I'm trying to build up my milk supply once more so that he can have some BM and I'm making progress!

You should get as informed as you can about breastfeeding. It's not as easy as it seems! If you have any problems, contact a lactation consultant or your local La Leche League leader.

It's perfectly normal. Your baby is going to want to feed 1-2 hours. Your going to see it slowly changing when your baby is drinking just milk cause the milk will make them full. Just feed your baby when ever their time hungry. Your doing a good job and choosing to breast feed. Just hang in there it'll get better. I had breast fed my first son for 5 months and was happy cause there's a special bond when breast feeding. Also Congratulations!!!

Oh, yes, absolutely normal. Newborns generally eat every 1-2 hours. You may sometimes get a stretch of 3 hrs. in there, but probably no longer than that. It can be exhausting for a new mama, but hang in there! Good for you for breastfeeding and congrats on your new baby. Enjoy!

Yes, yes, yes! My son is almost 6 weeks and still occasionally will want to eat very often. They have very small bellies early on that can only hold so much food. Also breastmilk is more easily digested than formula, making their stomach empty quicker. Just keep on feeding when he's hungry!

Yes. By nursing often your breasts are less likely to become engorged. Your baby will go through spurts of eating more often and not often enough. The important thing is to make sure baby is latching on right so that he gets the more filling "hindmilk".

each baby is different try to sooth the baby and hold him off just a bit before feeding. make him hungry enough to feed off each breast so he is full. He might go for longer stretches of time that way. my sister had that problem she was feeding her to often and only letting her take from 1 Brest and the baby would fall asleep only to wake an hour later and be hungry again.

now don't even worry about scheduling feedings

just go with the flow and offer your breast for comfort and hunger

though it won't be like "clockwork".......baby will sometimes be at the breast all day and night and then back off......you just follow baby's cues

good luck

edit.....my hosptial never offered sugar water to my babies.....that is silly
