If a vehicle is moving toward you at v miles per hour and blowing its horn at a frequency of f, then you hear a horn as if it were blowing at a frequency of h. This can be defined by the equation: , where s is the speed of sound, approximately 760 miles per hour.

1. Simplify the complex fraction in the formula.

2. Suppose a truck’s horn blows at 370 cycles per second and is moving toward you at 65 miles per hour. Find the frequency of the horn as you hear it.

Honey I agree with you 100%. I too am a math hater, not so much the basic math. adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing, but the stupid math where they wanna throw in letters, excuse me but our alphabet doesn't say ab1cdef2ghijk5lmnop7qrs9tuv3wxyz4, so why in the heck does math have to involve letters? I for one think its a just a bunch of crap that some bored teacher made up to punish his/her students one day. I've been outta school for 7 years now and not once have I used any math that involves letters, if schools would teach kids things they actually would use in the real world the drop out rate would be much lower. Sorry I couldn't answer your question but I just had to tell you that your're not alone in you thoughts about math.
