Yes, the government should stop being hypocrites and ban the production, sale and use of all tobacco products.
In the real world however, they'll just keep whacking excise duty on tobacco, tell people that it's really naughty to smoke and sit back and waste all the taxes that cigarettes bring in.

I think if cigarettes are to be banned, then the person who smokes them are the ones to ban themselves from smoking. I don't think anyone should have the right to tell others what not to do. By the way I do not smoke. I agree with freedom to do with one's life what one wishes to do as long as it doesn't harm anyone else.

'hammer to dead' has it right.
Ban cigs, then we can ban any food that contains polydoodle hydro thingys, any drink that contains alcohol , this of course is after we ban all forms of transport and power generation.Folk keep moving about from place to place, a lot of folk put their electric lights on when it gets dark, don't they realise the damage this is doing to other people.
I saw a couple of teenagers the other day wearing those i pod thingys, they should be banned, I mean the teenagers not the i pods.
But now I think about it those i pods have been proved to damage your eyes? They should be banned.
How about euthanasia , I hope thats not on the banned list, I have my name on the list!!!!!

The main reason they won't be banned is that cigarettes are a big money earner for the government.

yes and no. it would work in a perfect world, but there's no such thing at the minute. on the other hand, people should be allowed to do *whatever* under the law so if it's still legal, no-one can stop anyone else from doing what they want.
it would be nice if they were banned, but seeing as how many people actually do it, it would be difficult to completely ban them.

I think that maybe banning them in some public places was a great idea for those that dont smoke but it should have definetly been left to the landlord to decide if they want to carry in allowing smoking in their establishment. I think that as far as banning them altogether no one has a right to do it. If I sat next to you and lit up and you asked me to stub it out I normally reply to them saying "I'll give my ciggy up as long as you do away with your car as I dont agree with your emissons".

Smoking is banned where I live in the U.S. and other states as well. (I imagine you guys won't be far behind) You can smoke in your car but not in public areas ie; restaurants, bars, movie theaters, shopping malls, etc.
Business owners (ie; bar owners/clubs) thought they would lose customers, but since the ban has been in place, they have stated that they have not lost business.

In public places, yes, as I don't see why I should have to breathe them in, and my clothes and hair stink.
Banned - no, as we would be in a prohibition situation.

Hell no!
I'm fine with not smoking out in public places, but what I do in my home is my business.
That's just like saying that alcohol should be banned because it can cause liver disease and failure.

Even though I hate it I say no. It should be people's own choice whether they smoke. As long as they're responsible and don't do it around other people its not my business if they want to risk getting cancer. We need to stop nannying people in this country and let them get on with their own lives.
