I work in a restaurant in Edinburgh. Recently we have been informed that due to taxi fares now being taxed we can no longer have a staff taxi home when on a night shift. When i asked the owner wasn't it the law to provide staff with a way to get home after midnight he said no. I always thought it was. Does anyone know for sure?

Its not law but every employer has a duty of care obligation to you. If you feel threatened or endangered at work or getting to and from work, your employer should make it duty to look out for you.

Sorry to tell you this darling, but transport to and from work is the responsibility of the employee and not the employer.

Seems like you had a really good employer providing you with this service until such time as the costs went up, then he changed. But it can't be easy with costs rising all the time and still keep a business going.

That is why this govt is the worst in our history. They have had to change more new laws they introduced then ever before in our history because they just do not have the intelligence to think things through. You would have thought that they would have considered people leaving work after say midnight, and making an allowance for restaurant, club and pub workers, so they can get home safely. Especially women on their own.

But with Blair's wife being some big new wave ***** lawyer woman, "if I can take care of myself in my privelaged life, then so can those softy women without my security guards," telling Blair what to do.

I'm so sorry for you darling, you deserve better and more respect, but the law is against you because of another stealth tax that went un-noticed until now
