My best friend called and asked for my honest opinion and advice and I was completely honest with him.....Now, I am second guessing myself. The only thing is for the first time I told him that he deserves happiness and peace, and don't we all deserve that?
Peace.

Yes, this is my best friend for 26 years. He actually agreed with me, but I wonder if I just should have kept quiet.
Peace.

My best friends are the ones that say things that I don't always want to hear. Ones that show me how the situation looks from different angles. And I try to do the same for them. I think empathy has always been one of my stronger points.
My wife gets upset with me at times for playing "Devil's Advocate", but I just think it's important to try and see things through multiple points of view.
Anyway, when it comes to giving a good friend advice, the best thing you can do with them is to be completely honest to them about how you percieve the situation. They may not agree with you, and you might be wrong, but a good friend should take your advice for what is, the opinion and council of a best friend who would never intentionally do anything to steer them in a bad direction. I hope everything works itself out.

If he is truly your best friend then you never have to worry about keeping quiet. This is what the true essence of being a best friend means ... you can tell them anything and they'll stick around. As a best friend it's your job to be brutally honest (even if it hurts) because no one else can be and can get away with it.

I don't always want to hear what my best friend has to say ... and I think it has something to do with her usually being right. She knows me better than anyone and isn't afraid to tell me what I refuse to see. It has hurt ... but I always get over it and eventually realize she was right on.

You're right ... we all deserve happiness and peace. Isn't that why we need best friends? To remind us when we're lacking what we need the most in this life?

"Hold My Hand"

"With a little love, and some tenderness
We'll walk upon the water
We'll rise above this mess
With a little peace, and some harmony
We'll take the world together
We'll take 'em by the hand
'Cause I've got a hand for you
'Cause I wanna run with you ... "

That's what a best friend is for ... Peace to you. =)

Honest opinions can sometimes hurt people, but if someone asks you for an opinion you have to be honest...specially if this person is a good friend of yours. Im sure you gave your friend an honest opinion and he is happy with it...After all you specified that he is your BEST friend, best friends should give best friends the most genuine and honest opinions and advice. Whatever you told him, just be happy with it, he asked for your advice and you gave it to him honestly if you said something stupid that just came out wrong like ive done plenty of times, tell him and im sure he'll understand. Thats what friends are for..

before I give any advise to my friends, I first think through the entire problem that they are having and when I do give my advise on the matter, I do so with the thought in mind that if your going to give advise, make sure that it is something that you would be willing to do yourself!

Always put yourself in their shoes, and then think of a workable solution to the problem.

Yes, I have had to swallow my pride and go back and correct my advice to the person or al least supplement it.
