It is possible also that the world did not have as many animals at that time, like we have now. I think the many species of different animals,birds,etc..evolved over time.
And he gathered two at a time,so they could procreate.Their might not have been penguins and kangaroos,as we know them now.

He collected various numbers of different species according to the Bible. Not two of every kind.
Supposedly the animals came to him, he didn't go running around looking for them.
Since divine intervention in the affairs of the earth is a given in the story of Noah, it doesn't matter how many he took. There is no reason he couldn't have taken none and the Creator would have made a whole new bunch.
Rather than debating how many angels can dance on a pinhead, or more like, how many pinheads can dance on an angel, rather than making up reasons why St. John the Divine says the second coming was a thousand years ago, isn't it easier to take the Bible less literally and to pay more attention to the lessons it contains? Way too many people trying to "prove" that it says what they want it to. I think they will be among the damned at the end, for misleading their fellows.

This may come as a shock, but the story of Noah is not real history, it's a myth or legend, created to explain the origins of life long before paleontology (the study of fossils) showed that life evolved gradually.
A great flood could have happened, a man like Noah could have built an ark and gathered animals on it, but there's no proof that this really happened in exactly the way the Bible describes it. There are too many animal species in the world for Noah to have taken two of every kind.
But it's a beautiful story.

And what ever did those undesirable dinosaurs do to be excluded? :( Couldn´t Noah atleast have delivered a sort of lovable poultry sized ones? -edit- Lol... there have been no people 200 million years in the past while the continents have been final clumped jointly interior the form of Pangea... Nor have been there penguins or kangaroos or elephants or rhinos or snakes or bears...

katydint - YOU pay attention to details. if he only saved ONE feline, ONE canine, then how did they not die out? THe story goes that the animals went onto the ark in TWOS.
As for kangaroos, they are marsupials and are indiginous to Australia and that region.

It's only a myth. Many religions have a flood or deluge myth. It isn't REAL history.

Your answer is in the details.
Noah gathered every KIND of animal. ONE feline (from which all felines descended), ONE canine (from which all canines descended), and so on. Not so many animals are required when only ONE of its KIND is present.
