It's why they won congress... so why don't they do it?! Are the lobbyists making too much money through war profiteering? More campaign funds?

Because

IRAQ WAS A THREAT!!!!!!

(CNN) -- 2004 -- Former President Clinton has revealed that he continues to support President Bush's decision to go to war in Iraq but chastised the administration over the abuses at Abu Ghraib prison.

"People can quarrel with whether we should have more troops in Afghanistan or internationalize Iraq or whatever, but it is incontestable that on the day I left office, there were unaccounted for stocks of biological and chemical weapons."

Because it is not in the best interest of America to do so. If they go against the wishes of the American people they will be tossed out on their collective ear.

It has noting to do with lobbyists, nothing to do with profiteering and plenty to do with defeating the enemies of the United States. It was the American people through their elected officials in congress and the president that decided to send in the troops. Now they are there, blood has been spilled and America wants a victory.

Facts is facts!

No it is because there are a bunch of retarded neocons still in power that have voted against withdrawel and even if the dems can pass something through the senate it always gets vetoed by our ape president. He has vetoed bills on the war, healthcare, and medical research since the dems came into power. We need to vote in more Democrats in 08 inclusing a dem president in order to remedy this problem. I can't wait until it happens and all the conservatives start getting pissed because of it, lol.

That would mean DOING SOMETHING.

Even retreating is an action with Iraq -- it makes more dramatic sense, to be opposed to something (actually anything) and remaining CRITICAL.. then, doing something and having the other side criticize. It's a victims mentality that Dem-voters fall into OVER & OVER since the 60's.

Dems have done nothing since LBJ (who they dislike, and who was the best Dem President since Truman). But, say "we can, and we will do BETTER!" to cheers of pinheads that can't hold candidates feet to the fire, no matter what cloak they're wearing.

PS - Vote them all out. And think about the Presidential election, more than voting a party (blindly).

There are real problems with a precipitous leaving ala Viet Nam. They only won Congress by one vote and that's not enough to overcome vetos and filibusters.
We need to be able to get all our troops and hardware out unless we want it to be used by unfriendlies.
That's going to take time and planning. It not at all easy. That's why we should be making plans for it instead of planning surges and photo ops for the Prez.

Because Senate Republicans can prevent Democrats from ever reaching cloture on anything.

Plus, they have the power of the filibuster.

The Senate isn't like the House of Representatives, where Nancy Pelosi and the Rules Committee reign supreme.

Democrats know why they were elected. There are obstacles, however.

Look at the votes. The Republicans, although a minority, still have enough votes that a veto by Bush could not be overridden. Things will start changing when the elections get closer. After all, it is now a political war.

could you care to offer a source for this "promise" you declare he made? He promised to end try against operations in Iraq. He ended try against operations in Iraq. He promised to proceed to prosecute the conflict in Afghanistan, in seek of a passable consequence. the area in Afghanistan/Pakistan is extra good now than this is been considering the fact that American troops first set boots on the floor in Afghanistan. Secretary Powell would have stated Potty Barn incorrectly, yet in any different case "You smash it, to procure it." is genuine.

The cons keep blocking their efforts!
That low approval rating is for ALL of congress - not just the dems and the American people see the cons as the ones in the way of progress.
The 08 election will fix that problem - keep up the good work cons, you are contibuting to your own party's demise.

If they vote to cut funding and bring our troops home before the next election, they will have no platform to run on in 08.

As soon as the President and the other 49% of Congress who are republicans loosen their stranglehold on the country, you will see some action. But since the Democrats don't have the 2/3rds majority in the Congress to override a Presidential veto, they are unable to get much done.

I love the thumbs down when you tell the truth!
