I liked when they did it together. It was the first time someone really integrated rock and rap and tore down a lot of walls and lead to future collaborations of DMX and Marilyn Manson ("The Omen"), Christina Aguilera and Lil' Kim ("Can't Hold Us Down"), Gwen Stefani and Eve ("Rich Girls" and "Let Me Blow Ya Mind"). Plus, the video was awesome.

Aerosmith, no contest. Even with Stephen Tyler's help, Run DMC couldn't match the energy of the original.

Run DMC's version!!! It was the beginning of the integration of rap and rock, and the legitimizing of rap as a musical genre. Plus, it introduced a lot of younger people (like me at the time) to Aerosmith, and helped them make a huge comeback.
