I tested positive for pregnancy on Sunday and the next day I started my period... Big time. Could it be a miscarriage? This early on?

i tested a few days before my period in april, and then ended up getting my period. it's called a chemical pregnancy. but it's one of the most common types of misarriages. i would still go to your dr just to make sure. some people can still bleed in early pregnancy and everything is fine.

This is from peeonastick.com:
Hey, I got a positive test but my period started anyway! Huh? Since some HPT's are so sensitive, they can detect a pregnancy in its very early stages. Unfortunately, it's estimated that up to 50% of pregnancies are lost very early on. In the past, most women did not even realize they were pregnant-- their periods would arrive on time, or perhaps a day or two late. Now, women testing very early may get a positive test, but experience bleeding almost immediately afterwards. This is an early miscarriage, also referred to as a "chemical pregnancy." It is likely that you did conceive and the embryo implanted for a short time before dying. This miscarriage is "disguised" as a period because the bleeding happens right around the time you would expect your period. Because this is so common, you probably have nothing to worry about, medically speaking, if it happens to you once or twice (although it is still heartbreaking when it happens!) If, however, this happens to you more than a couple times, or in consecutive pregnancies, you should discuss it with your doctor, as this can signal a problem (which can oftentimes be corrected with minimal treatment.)

That said, it is also possible to experience some spotting or bleeding and still have a healthy pregnancy, so don't panic! It may be implantation bleeding (from your baby snuggling in your uterus for a nice long stay!) If you experience bleeding after a positive pregnancy test, you should call your doctor.

Yes, it is possible that this could be a miscarriage, I would contact your OBGYN or Doctor as soon as possible.

As for the bleeding and how common it is- some women do experience some bleeding throughout their pregnancy- some one time, some the entire time, so it's hard to tell if that's what you're experiencing or not.

And yes, it is possible to have a miscarriage this early on- most miscarriages happen in the first trimester. Some miscarriages happen SO early in the pregnancy (pretty much right after it happens) that the women miscarry, thinking it's just their period- never even being aware to the fact that they were pregnant- I believe that's called a chemical pregnancy.

It is also possible that you got a false positive pregnancy result and were never pregnant, although that's not likely or common. False negatives are quite common, but false positives do not happen very much.

I would call your physician. Good luck to you!

I had a miscarriage, and then a baby not long after, then another miscarriage. Considering I was told I'd never get pregnant, I considered that one a blessing. Two years later I go pregnant again, and we rejoiced and thought we'd never get pregnant again. Then #3 was born 18 months after #2...WOW! Then #4 was 15 months after #3, then 18 months later #5....we started thinking it was some kind of cosmic joke! #6 was born two years after #5, and number seven (we call her seven of seven) was born two years after #6. My SIL also faced several miscarriages, four or five I think, she stopped telling us after a while. She got pregnant about ten years ago though, and then popped out FIVE in ten years. So we're both quite pleased with our little blessings. I'm sorry for your loss, I don't know what else to tell you except to keep your hopes up. I never thought I'd be so blessed, and I remember those days of dread, every month of praying. We were total nuts during our pregnancies, especially since all of our miscarriages were after 12 weeks...far into the trimester of 'safety'.

I'm sorry to say it, but it sounds like you are having a miscarriage. My husband and I have been ttc for 15 months. We got pregnant in Oct and I didn't know it. I started what I thought was my period on a Fri. By Sunday I was having pain that I don't normally have. My cousin suggested I take a test so I did and it came back positive. I went to the emergency room that night because I was still bleeding. I bled off and on for 10 days. Please, call your doctor or go to the ER. Good luck to you!

you may have coonceived but the embryo either did not implant or it was not favorable for pregnancy. Its likely that, if you had not tested, you would have never known that there was a pregnancy. Don't worry too much, a miscarage this early on will have no effect on future fertility. But now you know that you CAN get pregnant!! Sperm and egg meeting is a big step!
