Flies or more specifically their larvae have been approved by the FDA for use medically to fight infection and remove dead tissue from living human beings. Sounds bad but they actually do an excellent job.
Interestingly maggots and leaches are the only living organisms approve for medical use by the FDA.
It's just naturally what they do other than irritate people at picnics.

you mean "house flies" I guess; there are lots of kinds of flies.
Well flies of all sorts are good food for birds. They also aid in the decomposition of dead bodies and poop, converting them into plant food.
That doesn't mean you want a lot of them around the house, though.

They come from maggots which are excellent at eating decomposing flesh, they help the natural cycle of life and only have a short lifespan anyway.
