The only time you should need to DEGAUSS your screen is if you are getting discolorations. This happens when a large magnet gets close to your monitor and is left there for a long time.

Speakers have big magnets in them and they are usually the cause of a magnetized screen.

I've never heard of it being a problem for you to degauss too much, in fact my son likes to hit the degauss button all the time and my monitor is still functioning.

Degaussing is the process of decreasing or eliminating an unwanted magnetic field. Due to constant use the monitor screen gets magnetized and the color resolution falters. If this happens you need to degauss the monitor by pressing the button. You need to do this only when you see pale spots in the screen. I.e. once in two / three years. Nothing will happen if you keep pressing the button often.

your color monitor, will get color blumes on the screen some times. Degauss, is a coil of wire wrapped around the top of the picture tube, that is briefly energised wit about 300 volts or more, wich will erace the color blooms, making the screen pure again.

Every time you switch on your PC, the power in your monitor, comes on briefly to erace any blooms, befor the rest of what comes on the screen, takes place.

The manual switch for it, is there, just incase, some magnetic sourse causes blooms. A brief period of switching that on, solves the problem.

Don't do it too often, maybe every month or two to "refresh" the monitor or if you have odd colour issues.
