I agree with tentofield....

except I would probably condense it to 5 days in Sydney - with some day trips to the Central Coast, Blue Mountains while you are there.

Then Fly to Alice Springs and spend 4 days there.

Then Fly to Cairns and spend 5 days exploring the reef and rainforest. I suggest you stay at Port Douglas, not Cairns..It's a lot nicer and more interesting in my opinion.

Hope you have a great trip!

Start in Sydney. Spend three or four days exploring Australia's oldest and biggest city then hire a car and drive to Brisbane. Take three days. It is 1000km with a lot to see on the way. Alternatively, drive to Melbourne to see Australia's second largest city with Canberra and much more on the way.

Spend a day or two in Brisbane/Melbourne then fly to Alice Springs and book a tour to Uluru and another for the sights round Alice - Simpsons Gap, Stanley Chasm, Kings Canyon etc. Fly from Alice Springs to Cairns and go to the Barrier reef, the Atherton Tablelands and the Daintree Rainforest/Cape Tribulation.

That lot will fill your two weeks wonderfully and give you a look at the vast differences in Australia (and the size of the place too).
