They don't call it 1A anymore, but that game certainly is an arugment for their competing on the same level as the big boys.

That wasn't a fluke win. They were flatout better than Michigan that day, and clearly they had more speed than Michigan was prepared to deal with.

That being said, I'd say reserve judgment on such a measure until later in the year (moving them up to the top tier could have devastating impacts on the program if they aren't ready).
It is still just one game, and nobody really knows how bad Michigan really is yet. IF Michigan goes 10-2, strong case for App state. IF they go 3-9, perhaps not.

Also, a good barometer would be how bad App state beat up on the rest of their opponents this year. If they go undefeated and blow everyone out, another good indication they are ready for the NCAA's top tier.

I think they're getting there. I think their win this weekend was kind of like the "any given Sunday" theory that any team can beat any team on any given day. But, take a look at the conferences they would probably join... the ACC, Big 10 (11?), SEC... I don't know. Maybe Conference USA would be the best entry level position for them. I think it would be interesting to see them play more Division 1A teams after winning the 1AA 2 years in a row.

Just a question... I'm not sure if it was them, but wasn't there something about them and a few more years of eligibility before possibly entering the Sunbelt? It was either them or Western Kentucky, and my guess is it was App St.

App. State is not ready for division 1-A. As an avid Ohio State fan, let me tell you, no one is happier about Michigan taking this humiliating defeat. That said, Michigan is a very good team that got caught looking past a smaller school towards one of their rivals, Notre Dame. If these two schools played 10 times, Michigan would win 9 of them, by a significant margin. I'm not trying to take away from the accomplishment of App. State. This was a huge victory, not just for them, but for all smaller college football programs in the country. I just think that it needs to be noted that Michigan didnt prepare for the chance that those kids could play ball. Just because, they won the biggest upset in NCAA history does not mean they are ready to move up.

Absolutely, in a mid-major. Just like Marshall was ready when they moved up. They dominated the MAC.

So as interesting as Appy States story is right now, if they move up, they'd better pick the ACC where they might finish in the top half, vs. the SEC where they would finish near the bottom.

FYI you had better start calling it the "Bowl Sub-division" instead of 1A. Some people around here will get on you for that.

no, and here is the reason why. look at the full schedule that the average div. 1a team has. then compare that to the schedule that appalachian st. has every year. do you really think that they could hold on to that emotion that they played with against michigan for a full season? i don't think so. they are good, don't get me wrong, but michigan wasn't a top 25 team to begin with. let appalachian st. play a team with a good defense and see what happens. they wouldn't last long.

Nothing against Appalachian St, but Michigan was over-ranked. App St. has won back to back 1AA National Championships, although this is their first year in 1A, they aren't even considered to be in the same breath as the elite teams in 1A college football.
There is a good reason why they separate 1A from 1AA schools.

I went to school at Ball State and I assure you Appalachian State would destroy the Cardinals so yes, they are ready. Maybe the two schools should switch divisions.

As nlong as they have Armanti Edwards they are. why does this true sophmore get no media attention?
17 of 23 for 227 3 TDs Passing
62 yards rushing and another TD. What's the guy have to do. He accomplishes the above against a nationally ranked Div I powerhouse.
Why is no one else paying attnetion to this guy. What he lacks in size he makes up for in getting the job done.
