When you hear about anarchists you are led to believe that we are mad bombers. The myth is created that we believe in violence for the sake of it. The other myth is that anarchism is chaos. It is claimed by politicians, bosses and their hacks in the media that if there was no government there would be chaos. But did you ever wonder about society today and come to the conclusion that perhaps we are already living in chaos...

There are various kinds of anarchists, but I'll tell you about the one I'm most familiar with: anarcho-syndicalism. Anarcho-syndicalism is basically trade unionism, with anarchist tendencies. Anarcho-syndicalists do not believe corporations should be run as if they were dictatorships, with the owner or CEO at the top, telling everyone below what to do. Anarcho-syndicalists believe everyone should have the right to assume democratic control over their place of work. I believe this is the best way to achieve both freedom and economic security.
Anarchists believe in decentralized democracy. That means not everyone gets to vote if the decision only affects a few people. The people most affected by a decision should be the ones who have the most say. If there is a minority in your group who wants to do things differently, anarchists believe they should be free to form their own independent organization and run it as they wish.

Anarchists prefer egalitarian relationships to hierarchical ones, and note that organizations based on force (such as states) tend to reinforce hierarchies, while organizations based on free association (and free dis-association) tend to weaken or destroy hierarchies.
Anarchists are people who try to treat others as equals, regardless of their social status. Anarchists may give or take requests, or advice, or instructions, with reasons for them, and avoid giving or taking orders. Anarchists have been involved in the abolitionist and other anti-racist struggles, in the labor movement, in the women's movement, and so on.
Of course, there are different kinds of anarchism, and some anarchists prefer one kind and others prefer another kind; many, if not most, anarchists support "anarchism without adjectives" and/or "panarchism," as well as their own preferred model, and believe that people should be able to join communities and associations which share their social model, so that some communities might have markets (as in mutualism, agorism, etc.), others might have communism (in the sense of free access to communal goods, not in the sense of totalitarian government), and others can have their own arrangements.

Anarchists oppose illegitimate authority and hierarchy, and therefore oppose capitalism and the state; anarchists favor voluntary, non-hierarchical self-organization.
