Life is a multi-faceted concept. Life may refer to the ongoing process of which living things are a part; the period between the birth (or a point at which the entity can be considered to be living) and death of an organism; the condition of an entity that has been born (or reached the point in its existence at which it can be established to be alive) and has yet to die; and that which makes a living thing alive.

Life can pass you by while you are busy trying to answer that question. We are here to live and do whatever makes you happy, share pain, joy, sorrow etc. May be you need a near death experience that will make you snap back and refind the meaning of life.
Ha ha, that's true Garima below me.

The meaning of life for me:
Is to live life to the full, enjoy it to the full and be yourself not what people expect you do be.
And Matthew T, Living Life to the Fullest has NOTHING got to do with "keeping busy", what I mean by saying this, is to live up to your potential as a human being. Not to keep ourselves busy, but to make ourselves feel satisfied, happy, accomplishing all our goals we have set for ourselves in life, being everything we can expect ourselves to be in life.
But that's just my personal theory and take on it.

We get meaning from living for a real purpose. Real purpose requires a God.
"Unless you assume a God, the question of life’s purpose is meaningless.” –Bertrand Russell
All those who tell us to "live life to the fullest" or some such similar thing are just telling us to keep busy so we won't have time to think about a meaningless existence. It is the same advice I would give to a condemned prisoner awaiting execution.
But if we think that God might exist, then we can reason that God must have put our great need for meaning into our human nature in order to point us to seek Him.
So it boils down to, live a meaningless life or seek God.
