To demonstrate that no universally acceptable definition of piety can be arrived at. By engaging a supposed expert (Euthyphro) in this topic of discussion, Socrates proves that the charge of impiety he's about to face is illegitimate....and, that his prosecution will be conducted by nothing more than a kangaroo court.
