Kind of tough to explain, but, the cost would be almost identical. Yes the larger motor would in theory use more fuel than the smaller motor. BUT, since the larger motor will not be working as hard as the smaller motor, the mileage will be so close it would be hard to tell. As for oil etc, no difference as long as both bikes are in the same condition to start with. I've been riding bikes for 41 years now. Have owned 26 different bikes, my last 5 have all been harleys including my '07 ultra classic I bought last July.
Hope that helps

First off, the 900 costs more from the dealership. While riding the 900 would use up a little more gas than the 600 because its a bigger motor. But other than that, all motorcycles need an oil and oil filter change, check chain freeplay/lubrication, and maybe an air filter change depending on riding conditions at 1000 miles.

It may not make much cost difference depending on your age & riding history etc but the 900 will probably be more expensive to insure.
You may need a new back tyre slightly earlier with the 900 but apart from that it won't be too different.
