see if the laptop has a USB port if it does then any printer she finds on the market will work with it...
If it doesn't have a USB port then she just needs to make sure the printer she looks at has a Parallel port...
All of the older laptops will have a Parallel port but some may not have the USB port.
As for the printer itself you're really looking at either inkjet or laser.
Lasers will cost more up front and are really only good for black and white... but they are the cheapest for people that print a lot of black and white stuff.
Inkjet is the only way to go for color as color lasers don't reproduce colors very accurately.
SO if you go inkject you should consider one big issue first. The ink is expensive. Best bet is a printer that has seperate color cartridges so you don't have to replace all the colors when red or blue runs out. Most HPs fall into this category, avoid them. Epson and Canon are your best bets for individual ink cartridges... Lexmark are okay but not the best quality.... Would probably say Canon is the best Epsons tend to have the print head dry up if you don't use them regularly.
In any event... have your mom-in-law print something at least every week (even a test print) to keep the heads from drying up.
Well... the folks at the computer store were a little bit right but now quite... Yeah, the great powers that be in the hardware business have stopped creating drivers that work with Windows 98. I expect soon they will cave to King Gates whim and stop putting them in for XP and only provide Vista, but thats another story.
Anyway, first off don't put XP on that machine. It isn't fast enough to use XP and you would have a very very very slow and finicky machine when you put it on there. If you want to put another op system on there that might be more stable go with windows ME, its more stable than 98. As for printers just look for the older models and you can find some that will still work with 98/ME... you wont find the newest printers but there are some available.

Well, which model thinkpad ??? Some laptops come with "parallel ports" (25 pin port, usually purple) on the back, some don't. If it does then any printer with a "parallel" printer port will work. If it does not have a parallel port then you need to look at USB printers, again as long as the thinkpad has USB ports on it. Alternatively, you can look at a "docking station" for the thinkpad whick would be a cradle that the laptop goes into that has many ports to use on the back of it. It would also have a keyboard and monitor and video port for using the laptop with a regular keyboard and mouse and a regular monitor.

Like the others have already said, what kind of printer you get depends on the version of Windows the ThinkPad has.
You have to buy a printer that is compatible with the version of Windows installed.

Depending on which version of Windows is installed on the IBM, all printers (for that version of Windows) will work.

I agree with your relative that you achieve salvation by being born again, or shall I say, believing in the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior, but I don't agree with your relative saying that a Catholic cannot go to heaven, or maybe that a Catholic is not born again. I am sure that there are a lot of churches that the people going to them claim to be born again and or not. As far as a person's salvation, There is no way that we know for sure if someone else is saved or not. The only assurance that we have is whether we are saved or not.
