Have you ever seen some of the advice top contributors give? They are usually cut and paste useless drivel. So I'd say many of them have no life and the joy of being a Top contributor on Yahoo Answers is their top goal and reason for being - pretty much says it all.
However there are some who give great advice and do it between actually living and interacting with other human beings.
So I guess it depends on which contributor we are talking about. I never paint everyone with the same brush so to speak.

Ha ha you're in basic terms jealous! I used to have a TC badge, and that i've got teenagers and a husband. our childrens are 2 and particularly much 4 so i'm busy. I in basic terms have the comp on all day and are available on for 10 min at a time in the time of the day! some ppl try this at artwork too!

sure some of them atleast, they know alot about what they are doing so they get a high rate of 'best answers' they spend little time on YA and get alot of best answers, others dont really have a life because they have a low rate of best answers so the only way to get that tag is to answer alot which takes time,
I would ask do level 7's with a low 'best answers' rate have a life?

Especially the ones from Asia. This is the only entertainment they have in their life. What better way to cool off in an air condition chat cafe and waste your time.

Obviously not.....they spend their entire day here asking and answering questions!! The top contributor badge is just another way of labeling that person as having absolutely no life for us all to see!!

yea...they only need 10% best answer to be top contributer...so they really don't need to have millions of questions and answers like some people do

They might, but you are forgetting the "knowledge partners". That's even better - they are company people paid to inundate you with their advert information while they answer questions in their slant.
But we aren't allowed to do such things, even bloggers who have a paid ad on their site when you click it, like mine below.
I'd rather answer questions, and THEN plug the blog - and not try looking legit when I'm biased.

They have a life but Yahoo likes their answers so they have a tag as well. It is all about Yahoo and not about the tag. And Yahoo keeps changing its mind.
