Just one?
Hmmm... I'd have to say... The Belgariad and it's sequal, the Malloreon. It's a fantasy novel and really long. They're both made up of five books (or two volumes) and contain supernatural elements such as magic and shape-shifting and a prophecy that shapes the entire realm.

Simply put,it's amazing. Extraordinary detail and awe-inspiring style. Once you begin, it's hard to put down. The Characters are all very humanized and each contain their own, flaws and morals and traits. I think the characters are what really bring this story alive.

My favorite book is 1984, because the story is so relevant to the world and its future. Our society continues to become more like the one depicted in Orwell's dystopia. Look at how often we use the phrase, Big Brother, for example. That comes from 1984.

"Tales of Ten Worlds" - Sir Arthur C. Clarke.

It is a collection of 15 of his best science fiction stories that I enjoyed ever since I was growing up, and an ever bigger fan, after finding a copy of "The City and the Stars."

Look here:

Included is a list of only the best sorcery fantasy books, grade reading level, a short review of each book, and a "reader's choice" list of favorite books. As you can tell, my favorite is "The Hobbit".

I hope this helps.
