People assume that kids with ADHD all have behavior issues, my son has ADHD and has never really been bad. The worst problem his teacher, coaches, or myself ever had with him is that he has no attention span at all. The hyperactivity isn't an issue, he runs outside like a nut when home and in school is allowed to fidget because it does not disturb the class. He was a good student before being diagnosed and medicated, but his teachers said that he was actually teaching himself, because he had no attention span at all. Still got all A's, still said thank you, please, etc. Medicating your child isn't an easy decision, but when you give them something that would make anyone without ADHD hyper and suddenly they have slowed down and can actually hear what those around them are saying, it is an easy decision to continue the medication. I want my child to be able to work to his fullest potential. I don't doubt that there are children who are misdiagnosed, no matter what the disease or disorder there will be. However I disagree about spankings and ADHD, are we supposed to beat our children for something out of their control. That would be like me smacking you every time you sneeze or cough. It would be pointless and would end up causing more problems.

My son is A.D.D. and physical discipline is what i started with before I knew he had it. It did nothing. Nothing at all. It didn't matter what I used or what actions I took. He had spankings, belts, switches, spoons, spatulas...you name it...Nothing helped. The only sugar substance I buy for him is fruit. No sodas, no candy. I am even picky about what juice he drinks. Some of those are loaded with sugar too. I didn't want to believe it either, but once my son had medication for it, he started making all A's in his classes. Now he has no problem focusing or doing homework. He is a good kid and had all those spankings for nothing. You know, that's what people said about kids before they discovered dyslexia. Oh and btw..the environment has changed dramatically compared to when our parents were young. Chemicals in the air, additives in food. Think about it. ADHD has to be diagnosed. There is a difference between a bad kid and one that has ADHD. It's so easy to say what is right for someone else isn't it? It doesn't always mean you are right.

Beating is one thing teaching disipline is another.
The latter must be consistant and takes time, which unfortunately most parents don't do because it's much easier to drug those "high Matenence kids".
It must be taught early enough so you won't have to beat sense into them.
I don't know, because there weren't to many brats or bullies when my kids were small. Most children were respectful and knew the word NO. They never argued about it or had temper tantrums, more than once.
Maybe we did something wrong with the occasional spanking and letting our children know we were angry with them, because they turned out to be well adjust adults who don't use the same method of teaching and end up with ADHD kids.
It's funny how they don't seem to have that ADHD problem when they're with their Grand parents who stll use the old ways.

I believe you. plenty those teenagers are no longer ADHD, they are in basic terms undesirable as h*** and pick a solid spanking. you do no longer ought to conquer your toddlers to dying to get your element for the duration of. yet you need to placed your foot down and enable them to nicely known which you are the be sure and that they are the newborn. Now days you have the toddlers calling the police and telling the instructor on their be sure as a results of fact they have been given a spanking or have been given yelled at. All teenagers are going to be teenagers, authentic adequate. yet some human beings definitely ought to draw the line. that is relatively unhappy that each time a newborn acts out the be sure takes them to the well-being practitioner and he prescribes them drugs to cool down. the place became into the well-being practitioner and the Ritalin back while i became into transforming into up (in the 70's and 80's)? you got your butt whipped with a change or a belt and you probably did no longer record your mothers and dads to all and sundry. this may be a sick international that we live in right this moment. yet to respond to your question, sure, I do have faith that the numbers could drop severely if human beings could desire to spank their teenagers with out being scared CSD gets entangled.

When I was growing up, from the time I was old enough to walk and talk, my DIVORCED bleeding-heart liberal hippy parents smacked the crap out of me if I even looked like I was thinking about acting up. There was no eye-rolling, neck-slinging, or teeth-sucking, and definately no back-talking. And I knew not to push my chances - unless I wanted to end up on the back of a milk carton.
Back then ADHD and ritalin were considered diagnoses for that handful of freaky kids who either had "issues" (i.e. needed to be in special ed) or who's parents had "issues" (i.e. rehab). And even then, the consensus was usually that the freaky kids probably just needed a good @ss-whuppin'.
Most of the kids today who have been diagnosed as "ADHD" are the result of lazy parents, greedy medical professionals, and timid school officials who don't have the stones to tell the lazy parents that their kids need the snot beat out of them.

Funny, back when you could spank your kids, I'm a product of that time, there were not nearly as many behavioral problems and NO ONE had a gun they carried to school, unless we were going hunting afterward.
Funny how society "changed for the better" and we had to build larger juvenile detention facilities shortly after...

I think we need to beat our kids more. When I was a kid you didn't hear about ADHD, but that was a different time. The 70's rocked!! I hate all this time out crap, kids don't fear their parents anymore. We need to instill that fear back in them, I bet that percentage would drop. Plus I think our kids use it to their advantage its an excuse to be bad and not listen for some kids.
