I think it's a really fine balance. On the one hand, there's new stuff available that's really bad for you, and there's So Much sugar and fatty stuff available that you can eat more in one hour than a 17th century peasant would have eaten in a lifetime.
OTOH, the food police aren't really sure what they are doing, either. Butter, good. Butter bad. Butter good again, because Margarine is full of TRANSFATS! Or the egg controversy.
Then, there's the problem of stressing out so much about what you eat that you wind up with ulcers and can't enjoy anything.
Everything in moderation -- a time for fasting, a time for gorging, and most of the time following a sensible routine. That's my plan! Oh, and a little chocolate every day. (-:
Just tell 'em, "thank you for caring" and go ahead and have another spoonful. Cheese is pretty healthy stuff, compared to saccharine.

I couldn't agree more. I have had cancer three times. And then had a horrific accident at work that damaged my legs and hips and I was in a wheel chair for 3 years and now I use a walker or cane. My doctor and friends are always telling me this and that about eating (and I'm not fat) and EMing me things and it makes me SICK!!!!! I eat what I want because we are all going to die one day and I want to die happy, not starved or tired of ugly food. I have been through enough in life that one of the great things left in life is the joy of cooking and the joy of enjoying a good eats with my chums!!! We are all going to die of something some day and I don't believe we are in control of that anyway. So live life to the fullest!!! Super terrific question worth two stars!!! You are an all star question asker!!! (And I am NOT an a** kisser!!!)

I recon there's 2 dart boards in these research labs, one has all the things people like to eat/do, the other board has multiple sections marked "Good for you", "Bad for you" and "OK in moderation".
When the 'scientists' get a juicy research grant, they throw one dart in each board and announce the result to the world.
Look at coffee, in the space of a year how many conflicting reports as to it's effect on humans have there been?

If you took on board everything that is bad for you, you would eat nothing. It is getting ridiculous. All food has some good and some bad. I don't eat a lot at the moment anyway as I have lost my appetite, but when I do it will be what I want to eat and when I want to eat it.
:-)))

I think that towns outlawing the bad oil makes tons of sense
maybe the health insurance industry could calculate the savings, then they could just buy good oil for all the restaurants
then maybe 100,000 quadruple bypasses avoided or something, and they COULD calculate that sort of thing
it might hurt sales of anticholesterol meds though, well, thenthey could just use all those meds for something else instead, breast cancer or Bipolar or restless leg or whatever

mizza-where is your sense of humor!
I don't believe anything the Food and Drug bunch put out anymore because they reverse it totally a few years later.
I would however say, too much sugar can cause diabetes which my dr. said years ago it did not,now they say it does and (hold your breath and turn purple here, people)i used to use 3 heaping teaspoons of sugar in every cup of coffee and tea I drank! Would you say that is a definite no no. me too.I now have the big D.(also stands for dumb!)

lol, okay I dont prefer the clogging sensation but I get your point.
I like to eat what I want when I want, unlike these drones that I work with (7 women OBSESSED with their weight) who think they'll have a heartattack if they eat a smidgen of chocolate, and then when I eat some chocolate I get 'OOOOH YOU BETTER GO DOWN THE GYM NOW!!!'
