It is a Fujitsu laptop. 3.2 Ghz and 1GB memory. When I turn it on, it would go through the Windows startup screen and then go to this black screen which says it does not detect the last boot (or something like that) and it gives me option to start Windows normally, or go the last known Windows setting. I have tried both, but it still goes back to the restart mode and goes through the Windows start up screen and comes back to the same message. Can anyone help and let me know what is wrong? Also, I tried inserting the restore disc that came with the laptop, and it hasn't done anything either... I have some things saved on the laptop and I would like to not to lose it... Please help.

Try the following:
When you power it up, hit your BIOS key before windows does it's load attempt and set boot sequence so as CDROM is no. 1
Insert your Win cd and and turn pc off. Reboot from cd and run Windows repair.
If this fails and you don't have a safe mode option to boot to so as you can diagnose, you may need to reformat and reload fresh Windows, assuming your RAM or other hardware is not cooked.

try to boot from safe mode and do a system restore. heres how:
press power, then before the windows boots up, hit F8 then choose safe mode, after that, do a system restore, and restore.
after the restore, if it works, clean registry using any registry cleaner.
hope this helps.

If you are worried about the Data then you can simply take it to some friend take the HDD out and get allt the data.

But otherwise too you can simply press Ctrl and F8 alteranately to go to Safe mode, and then find whats wrong. and / or get the data.

boot from your windows XP CD and use the recovery console. It sounds like one or two of your startup files is corrupted.

If you make an ACCURATE note of the errir it gives and post a question with that you MIGHT get a sensible answer.

Without the error we can only guess at the problem.

Agree. Post the error message word-for-word, and you'll likely get the help you're looking for.
