o i think so. just look at the red sox, they got buccholz who just pitched a no-no. jacoby ellsbury, if you haven't heard of him, his one of the fastest players out there. brandon moss who isn't spectacular, but gets the job done. papelbon and youkilis came from the farm. and I'm sure the same is true for other teams.

Great question! It depends. If you are a Yankees fan, then the answer is "no". The answer would be, "spend as much money as possible on top free agents". However, for the rest of the league, I do believe this year has shown that teams get more value from their farm systems. Point and case: the Milwaukee Brewers, which is almost all home grown players. You see, for small market teams, going and getting free agents isn't a possibility. You just can't match the dollars teams like the Cubs, Red Sox, and Yankees can spend - so you have to grow your players in your farm system. There is no choice. This has always been true, but this year has been an example of how you can be more successful with true home grown talent over an assortment of free agents.

No, it's always been known that you get the best value from your farm system. That's why you have a farm system.

The typical plan is to build a good team within your system and fill in a few key spots with free agents to make your team championship caliber. Not only are farm system players better values but they typically also play baseball the way their team wants, they have better and longer relationships with their teammates and they have a stronger connection to the fan base.

I think every team would love to build from within, but not every team has the talent in their farm system to to that.

Yes. Farm systems are more helpful to a team than free agency. FA is just to fill up a hole you have, not to build an entire team.
