What is the percentage on someone getting pregnant using the I.U.D? I took a pregnancy test at home and it was positive and two days later I had a doctor's appointment and I had the assistant to do a pregnancy test on me and she said it was negative, so I am very much confused, can someone help me.

It's possible, but not likely. I use the Mirena IUD. It uses hormones and a barrier to prevent pregnancies. I haven't had a period in 2 1/2 years.

This is what the Mirena web site said:
Q. How effective is Mirena compared to other birth control methods?

A. Mirena is one of the most reliable methods of birth control. Only about 1 in 1,000 women who use Mirena will experience an unintended pregnancy during the first year of use. Mirena doesn’t rely on your using it regularly and properly to be effective.

METHOD PERCENT EFFICACY WITH TYPICAL USE
Mirena 99.9%
Surgery (female, male) 99.5 - 99.85%
Hormones (Pill, shot) 92.0 - 97.0%
Copper intrauterine devices (IUDs) 98.0 - 99.2%
Barrier methods (condom, diaphragm, sponge, cervical cap) 60.0 - 86.0%
Natural methods (withdrawal, natural family planning) 75.0 - 81.0%
No Method 15%

Yes, you can get pregnant with an IUD but it's not very likely. The percentage of it's possibility of happening is .1% and that is if your body rejects it, which usually happens early.
There could be various reasons for a false positive test.

Chemical Pregnancy
A chemical pregnancy is basically an early miscarriage. Research has shown that half of all first pregnancies end in miscarriage. Due to the high sensitivity of home pregnancy tests, many women catch early pregnancies but end up going on to have their periods due to a chemical pregnancy.
Missed Reaction Time
For accuracy in home pregnancy tests it is essential that you read the test results in the stipulated reaction time. If you let the test sit for too long (after the instructions on the box tell you), the test is invalid. This may cause it to show false positive results.

Chemical Interference

Drugs that have the pregnancy hormone Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG) in them can cause incorrect results in home pregnancy tests. The Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG) in them may be responsible for the false positive pregnancy test. If you have had an HCG shot due to infertilty treatments, you need to be sure the shot is out of your system before you attempt to use early pregnancy tests.

Evaporation Lines

While technically not a true pregnancy, some pregnancy tests leave a faint evaporation line as the urine crosses the test. This faint very light grey evaporation line in the test area is often interpretted as a positive result.
Besides Home pregnancy tests are only around 97% accurate when done correctly.

Yes, it's possible. You'll need to talk a test. Being pregnant with an IUD is dangerous to the developing fetus. It can puncture its tissue and possibly abort itself. There have been instances where the fetus has developed to term the child has had severe injuries.

That's strange. Yes, you can still conceive while you have an IUD. It's unusual but it does happen. Run some more tests.
