It is a really good idea to wear a helmet. It really only takes a minor blow to the head to cause serious, even fatal, injuries. Go to the clinic and ask them what the most common snowboard injuries are: broken wrist, and head injuries. And even if you're a super great snowboarder there are other people on the slopes with you who might not be so good, or are riding out of control. I've been spun around and knocked down more than once by some other idiot on the slope out of control. If they knock you into a tree and you don't have a helmet on you could get seriously injured. Mt. Hood Meadows had a fatality last year. They say that a snowboarder hit a skier when the skier fell down and the skier didn't have a helmet on. He died at the scene. Sad really when a helmet might mean he would still be with us enjoying the slopes.
More and more people are wising up and wearing helmets so there is no reason to feel weird about wearing one because someone might think "its not cool". And with some of the great helmets out there with speakers built in, they make riding with a helmet pretty appealing.
I'll be wearing one this season.

Most of the people I board with including myself wear helmets (most of the time depending how hard im going to push it that day) all of us are good but not pros we are park rats mostly...and too be compeltely honest I rarely fall and when i do its cuz i lose balance on a rail but i never bail hard usually just a mis landing or somethinkg but i still wear the helmet cuz u never know what can happen. a lot of people think that if u are seen with a helmet other people will laugh at u and say ur a baby... thats not true... of course there are some stupid people that would think that but for the most part people dont care... most people u see with helmets in the part are acutly really good... so for saftey wear one but if u dont thikn ur gonna fall then dont worry.. but u can eat it whenever take for example my buddy was crusing down a blue course (keep in mind we usually take black dimonds with ease) but he wasnt paying attention and just messing around not concentrating he caught and edge bashed his dome on the ground nad as a result had a nasty concussion.. ever since he always i mean ALWAYS wears a helmet

It depends what you're doing. It generally pays to be wearing a helmet especially if:
- You're just learning (although arguably wrist guards are more important)
- You spend a lot of time in the park or hitting rails
- Are out in the back country or otherwise exposed to rocks, trees and other hazards.
If you're just cruising around the resort mountain then you probably don't need one. You should probably be wearing your helmet when you know you'll be pushing your limits. Personally I just ride w/ mine on all the time. You never know and plus you can get speakers and listen to all your tunes.

if you're asking if any helmet is ok, then no. you need a snow sport helmet. a bike helmet isn't gonna do the trick. personal preference is the only thing here. obviouslly a helmet will protect your head. they are warm. they can have tunes, bluetooth, and 2 way radio access. on a good day there is nothing like the wind blowing through your hair.If you're wearing a hat anyway then I don't see the issue. it shouldn't be embarrasing to wear one. unless you're ultra shallow. netnet looks like she may not be so fine now. I never riped a slope. usually i rip them.

regardless how good you are, and how few times you fall, you never know what the other jack *** on the mountain is going to do! One of my worst falls was on a super easy cruzer run, when some dumbass slammed in to me from behind, going way too fast and out of control, I was glad I had my helmet on that day. It's just stupid not to wear one. If someone is that concerned with their image on the mtn, then go ahead, put on your steezy gear, and beanie, but stick to the base of the mountain with all the other tourists trying to look cool and stay off the slopes and out of my way.

The helmet is the most important piece of equipment to use on the mountain. It will not just keep you warm, but it will protect your head when you hit the snow, ice, or are attacked by a tree.

A helmet will not save you in every impact. It will save you in more serious impacts than you would be saved with just a hat. In other words, you will have better protection and survive more serious impacts. They are comfortable and warm.
No matter how good you are, you are always in danger of being hit by someone else.
There is no logical reason not to wear one.

i think its a good idea to wear a helmet, i do and its not much different from not wearing one.. plus its alot safer, theres all these kids who think their cool without helmets but if they fall they could get seriouly injured.... you can be skilled and still catch an edge and fall. some people laugh at me cause i wear a helmet but i would rather be safe then in a hospital or dead

If its really cold or your going through trees or to the park a lot I recommend you wear a helmet, but otherwise I never wear mine, its just so big and awkward. So if I'm teaching someone or just doing groomers, i don't wear one.
