At 5 days before your period is due the test is only about 50% accurate. So of 100 pregnant women only half would test pos 5 days before.
At 4 days before, your odds increase to about 70%
At 3 days--84%
At 2 days--87%
At 1 day before--92%
Day of--98%

As a rule of thumb, the earlier you test, the less accurate the results. False positives are rare, but false negatives are quite common. The reason for this is because of testing too early or not having enough HCG in the urine for the test to detect (not using first morning urine)
HCG is the hormone that the home pregnancy tests test for. The detectable amounts of HCG in your urine are highest during your first morning pee, which is why the instructions with the at home pregnancy tests say to use.

As far as the "5 Days Before Your Missed Period" early pregnancy tests being inaccurate (giving false negatives) This is usually because of testing too early. Very very few women have a cycle (period) that comes at EXACTLY the same time every single month. So, even if you think you're testing five days before your missed period, you could be testing, 6, 7, or 8 days before your missed period without realizing it because, well, your period hasn't come yet, so you can't backtrack 5 days until then.
Also, when the brands advertise "Five days before your missed period" that's just an average and they are basing that average on 28 day cycles with ovulation occuring on the 14th day.
Ovulation doesn't always occur on the 14th day of the cycle, even for women who have consistent 28-day regular cycles. Some women ovulate on day 10, some on day 17, some on day 22. Even the same women can vary by a few days each month when she ovulates. She may ovulate on the 16th day one month, the 14th day the next, and the 15th day the next month.
So basically, even though you believe that today is the 5th day before your period, it may actually be more than that, and even if it is the 5th day before your missed period, and you had a negative result, there is still a chance that you could be pregnant.

I'd wait a few days, test again, and then if you still don't have your period after that, test once more. If all else fails- you could get a blood test from your OBGYN, A Planned Parenthood, County Health Dept, or diagnostics lab. Blood tests are far more accurate.

Good luck to you!!

Even the First Response is only 69% effective at detecting a pregnancy 4 days before a missed period, so it could very well be a false negative. I know exactly how hard it is to wait and test, I am on the 6th cycle ttc #3 and 9 dpo and I had a debate with myself this morning and barely restrained myself from testing. Wait about two or three more days and test again, but don't believe a negative unless AF arrives.

Good Luck!

This is directly from their website.
Q: How does the test work?
A: The FIRST RESPONSE® Early Result Pregnancy Test detects in urine the hormone your body makes during pregnancy: hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin). The FIRST RESPONSE® Test is so sensitive that most women have enough hCG to be detected as early as 4 days before their expected period. The amount of pregnancy hormone increases as pregnancy progresses. In clinical testing, FIRST RESPONSE® detected the hormone levels in 69% of women 4 days before their expected period, in 83% of women 3 days before their expected period, in 93% of women 2 days before their expected period, and in 93% of women 1 day before their expected period.
Okay...so at four days before your missed period, the test is only 69% accurate...and it increases an average of 11% accuracy everyday...that being said, it is safe to assume that at five days before a missed period, the test is approximately 58% accurate...so not really reliable.
The best thing for you to do is to wait until two days AFTER your missed period and use first morning urine to do a test. If it is still negative, don't give up b/c you may not have conceived when you thought. Just wait a day or so and test again. Good Luck and God Bless.

Hey girl,

I think it may be too soon. While you CAN test that early, it's only about a 69% accuracy. The closer you are to your period due date the better. I tested positive with First Response 2 days before my period was due, so my advice would be to test again in 3 days.

Good luck!

Not sure about the tests things but i thought that they werent really too accurate until about 2 weeks?

The best way to get preggers is to get your man to hammer you several times a day (or night).

My missus wanted to get duffed again and we spent almost 3 days in bed :D It was great, and now we have our latest addition to our family, and he is 11 wks old!:D

Just keep on doing "it" until you stop menstruating, then you will know that you are preggers!:D

It might be too early for you to test....Some people get lucky and have enough pregnancy hormones in their system to show up on a test

OR

This month wasn't your month...

GOOD LUCK
