How do you do elections in your school? (high school)?

How do you lead the elections? Do you have students make a list of supproters to be a candidate? Do you elect one person per level or just one school president? Do you have a student counsel?

Here, we simply had to check off a box on a piece of paper with someone's name beside it, much it much federal ballots. Not all that original, but got the same results from school presidents much like the Australian government these days, so I suppose the systems works (for the priveledged).
