America was once nothing more than a series of insurgencies fighting a vastly superior military force for independence.
Do you think the Iraq War is about bringing freedom to Iraqis, or is it more about creating a vast market place for Bush’s cronies?
Has America lost her way? If so, where do you think we lost it?

time_wounds_all_heel- I did not imply iraq didn't deserve what we acquired... i wondered a loud if we've become the colonizing force we once defeated.

time_wounds_all_heel…- It's a modern form of colonization. Our purpose there is to set up a friendly market toward us. Bottom line. If we wanted to give the Iraqis freedom from Saddam, well we did that almost 4.5 years ago. We gave them freedom... so why are we still there?

Mark J- You show your lack of brain power if you think the American Revolution was about 'taxation without representation'.. it was about who was going to control the vast economic potential of this land... just like every war, just like we're trying to control the vast economic potential of Iraq. Maybe Iraqis think freedom, is the freedom to control it for themselves.

This just about sums up the history of US policy in the Middle East:
'We'll put you in power if you maintain a favorable business climate for us'
Why else would a country with oppressive rulers and a large population of radical Muslims, such as Saudi Arabia, be a US ally?

Comparing the Iraq War with the American Revolution isn't relevant. The Iraq War was not started by people seeking freedom from tyranny, but by the president of a separate nation. I think Bush was more motivated by a long-term hatred of Saddam Hussein than by any desire to liberate anyone. There is also the Iraqis' oilfields to consider in his motivation.
We haven't lost our way, but the man steering the boat currently is a fool. I respect the office, but have no respect for Bush. I do respect grassroots America and there lies all hope for our future.

The big difference was that in the American Revolution, those insurgencies weren't also fighting each other. A lot more Iraqis have been killed by other Iraqis than by coalition troops. In fact, most of the US soldiers and marines killed and wounded in the past year were collateral damage--tripping booby traps meant for someone else.
The war is mostly about no bid contracts, with the added bonus that Chickenhawks get to play toy soldiers with real soldiers and to hold the troops hostage for more funding.
And, I wouldn't say that America has lost her way. We've been carefully channelled into tyranny by the God and Greed Coaltion ever since the 1950's. Those folks know exactly where they are taking America.

It's never about the liberation of people. It's always about strategic military gain and money, bottomline. Just think about all those other poor people in the world that are being slaughtered by their oppressive rulers. Why dont we liberate them? I'll tell you why... because there is nothing to be gained by doing so. America never had its own way...they have been secretly controlled by the British all along. What better way to rule the people than by handing them a fake declaration of independance. It stoppd the fighting right? Just the Iraqi people are not as easily fooled as the early Americans.

It was never about freedom. Why did Halliburton win no--bid contracts and that Vice President Cheney still owns stock from this companies. Also there are too many Private Military Industry companies being used as "Security" considering that the US military is already there. Too many financial irregularities.
Our country has rarely fought a war for peace. Study your history and using critical thinking along with research you will realize that most wars were about business and not freedoms.
Not to appear as anti-US, most of the world does it as well and they are/were called empires.
For US history study Howard Zinn at http://howardzinn.org/default/ and Henry Steele Commager at http://www.commager.org/

The American Revolution was about freedom of Religion and no Taxation without Representation.
How in the world would that equate to Iraq?
The war in Iraq is not about helping anyones cronies and it is absurd to even think that. Shows a very narrow minded focus established in the drooling techniques of liberals.
The US is well grounded in how it functions. Whichever group is out of power is unhappy but I guess you can't see that.

The Government stated to the last day of the Vietnam war, that Communism would take over the world immediate, if the US would leave Vietnam.
How do you counter such baloney?
People can't see straight, that the US is under the influence of the Kissinger school of war mongers since 1945, when a bunch of them migrated to our shores.
This people are obsessed, believing, every nation on earth is out to get them and have convinced many our presidents, to follow their war mongering ideas.

the difference is... we were fighing against an imperialistic government ruled by monarchs... not so with Iraq. the money to be made in Iraq is unavoidable. that's just the way it is... it's the same as an underdeveloped area in a backwoods county... someone is going to develop it, and someone is going to make money.... but, i hate that people wanna say that this war is so that Bush can create business for his friends.. that's just not logical.

Iraqis aren't fighting for their independence from us. You ever heard of taxation without representation? That's what was going on when the American colonies went to war for their independence. I highly doubt that's happening in Iraq. These two have nothing in common except the hit and run tactics and guerilla warfare that are being used.
