I got up this morning to get ready for work. I was a little tired as I had to do alot of running around with the kids for last minute school items last. I got out of the shower and felt just fine. I was ironing my shirt and bam, my back just starting seriously hurting (about 2 inches above my belt line. It was like someone turned on a switch.

I finished getting ready for work. But the back pain continued. I took 2 ibuprofen, but it really has had no effect an hour later.

Oh man It hurts so bad.

I think I should give it a day before taking it further.

You strained your back.. It can happen doing just about anything.. The best and really only thing you can do is to rest a bit and use a heating pad on it to loosen it up... Maybe you slept in a weird position or you improperly lifted something a bit heavy... The only thing you can do is to rest the area.. Which mean you are out of commission for the day ! If the pain is in the middle of your back right above your belt line it could be a pinched nerve or muscle problem. In that case alternating heat and ice along with anti-inflamitories may do the trick. Also if you have a job where you are on your feet a lot you should be stretching every morning, not just your back but the backs of your legs. These mussels can pull down on your lower back if they get tightened up. You should also look out for kidney stones. When I had mine the pain you describe was very similar. If you are running a fever at all this could be the culprit and you should seek help immediately. Good Luck!

I had experienced this once 2 years back. Dont do activities that will strain your back too much. Avoid walking up hill or climbing stairs too much because it may make pain more severe. Sleep on a flat surface with a pillow / pillows elavated your legs to heart level. This reduces pain drastically. If this does not help, consult a doctor to get your back checked to know whether you have some other problem like slip disc or ligament tear.

youve probably suffered some muscular strain, often you will not feel the pain from it until a sudden movement sets it off. i would recommend resting up a bit and doing some light activity such as stretching. this is important even if it hurts a bit because you dont want your muscles to "lock up"
