I just bought an antique "Jenny Lind" crib from an antique mall. They didn't know the exact date it came from but they are sure it is older than the 1950's. I bought it for $60. I can't find a website or any info on what Antique Jenny Lind cribs run. Can anyone tell me what a crib like that would cost?

It is not painted.......it is just finished wood. It is in excellent shape too. It is very sturdy and I am going to use it because it is the spindal bar type.......just like the modern Jenny Lind cribs. You can just tell that it is antique!

you can check it on ebay and see what they are going for, but don't use an antique crib today because it won't meet safety guidlines. they should strictly be used for decoration.

edit-- you need to make sure they spacing of the bars is up to code, and i can't remember the exact measurement right now. you can find guidelines on line and it's really important to follow them for your baby's sake. congrats on the antique though, how fun

If you bought it as an accent piece, and it's in good shape, then that's a good deal. However, if you bought it to actually put a baby in, then you might have a problem.
The maximum spacing of the bars in older cribs was not specified. There were tragic incidences where babies got their head between the bars and strangled themselves. In the early 80's the government started regulating the spacing on cribs so that this couldn't happen.
Make sure the spacing on your crib is allowed under the current standards. I don't know what the allowable dimension is now, but any store that sells baby furniture would know.

Salli B said just what I was going to about the pop can as a space test! One other thing to check is that the mattress fits right up to the sides of the crib. The baby could slip into the gap and suffocate. Push the mattress all the way to one side and check the gap because it'll shift that way if the baby slides down. Other than that it sounds like a great deal and a beautiful crib.

It is true that dropside cribs have been recalled, however you can fashion the sides of the crib to NOT be drop side anymore. And make sure the bars are the correct width apart, and the paint is safe for babies, because babies chew on EVERYTHING. And definitily make sure the baby has a firm new mattress. I think as long as you put it together nice and sturdy, fashion the side of the crib to NOT be drop side, and make sure the measurements are in good standards, it sounds like a great idea :)

Well a new one is 350

and the cheapest crib out there is 100 dollars

so i'd say it sounds like a deal to me.

and an easy thing that you can do is post it on ebay and see how much you're offered

You got taken. It is not an antique. Do not put your child in it. The older cribs are unsafe for children. They could cause injury or even death. The bars are not properly spaced and they tip over, etc. Lead paint and pealing paint the kids eat it. Bring it back. An antique is something that is hand made, not machine made. An antique is something made before 1870, prior to the Industrial Revolution. 1950 is old but not an antique, it has no value. Most people throw these cribs out in the garbage when they clean out their attics. You could get one for free on junk day in your neighborhood. Get your money back, don't get taken. Hope this opened your eyes as to what an antique is.

I would think any crib for $60 that is in good condition is a good deal. The cheapest cribs you can find new are generally $119, and that is a bare minimum.

Brand new cribs are expensive, even Jenny Lind. Ours is a sleigh crib but it was $375.

My mom had an antique Jenny Lind crib that she sold for $50. I would say you did very well.
