Opposite Of Prime Number

Considering only whole numbers bigger than zero....

- A prime number is divisible only by 1 and itself. The number 1 is NOT prime.

- A composite number is any number that has a factor other than itself and 1. Every number that is not prime or 1 is composite.

- The number 1 is special, it is not prime and not composite.

Every number can be factored into a product of primes (maybe with some primes repeated) in exactly one way, if you don't worry about the order of the factors. For example, 30 = (2)(3)(5) = (3)(5)(2) etc., and 12 = (2)(2)(3) or (2)(3)(2) or (3)(2)(2). So the prime factorization of 12 has exactly two 2's and one 3, in whatever order.
That's why 1 can't be prime: you could multiply by as many 1's as you want and still get the same number, and then the factorization wouldn't be unique.

Opposite Of Prime

First let me say that 1 is not a prime. It is called a unit.

There are three sets of positive integers.

Units, which consists of only 1. (In more general mathematical setups this is not so trivial.)

Prime numbers. This are 2, 3, 5, 7 -- numbers that are greater than one and cannot be factored.

And composite numbers. Those that can be factored into 2 or more primes.

First of all, 1 is not a prime. It is a unit.
Prime numbers are whole numbers greater
than 1 which are divisible only by 1 and themselves.
The others are called composite numbers.
