I hope to become pregnant in the next couple of years and have already done tons of research. However, nothing compares to the firsthand experience of moms around the world. What was the biggest surprise to you? And why does no one tell us about these things?

Nobody told me about the risk of incontinence afterwards:P I had researched and read EVERYTHING-or so I thought...Imagine my surprise when I jumped (haha, right...more like pulled myself up..) the morning after having my son and peed all over the floor. And I couldn't control my bladder for 6 fricken months. UGH. I swore I would NEVER be preg again, and I actually told my husband it was NOT worth it, no matter what everyone says. Now here I am, loving my 13 month old son, and pregnant again. It took me awhile to 'fall in love' with him but I had heard that happens sometimes (but didn't think it actually would) Honestly-he is the best blessing ever.

1) That the 9 month pregnancy is a MYTH!
2) That, at times, you lose control of your bodily functions...
3) That I would have more hair on my belly than I do anywhere else on my body, including my legs.
4) That I would suffer from sever backaches due to over sized BOOBS!
5) That everything feels so hard....its hard to get my butt out of bed in the morning cause I feel like I weigh a ton...and everything takes so much effort.

There is so much more....I think I will write a book when I'm done, lol.

Nobody ever told me that you are actually pregnant for 10 months! Also that at the end of the pregnancy you will become so anxious over wanting to meet your baby that you just may go crazy waiting for it to happen on it's own and will probably start to try the "at home" methods of inducing labor.

During pregnancy, the only thing was exactly how nauseous I was going to be!! With my daughter, I was still waiting for the nausea to end at 16 weeks!!

I knew that there had to be some bleeding after pregnancy, but I never realized how much I would bleed. You go nine months without a peroid to then have one for weeks on end!! With breast-feeding, I then didn't have another peroid until I stopped nursing her.

No one told me that the first time I urinated following an episiotomy hurt like holy heck! I also was not informed of how horrible having a BM would be post-partum. I mean, come one, we ALL go to the bathroom. Why would they not think to tell me these things?! lol The little squirt bottle filled with warm water will be your BEST FRIEND after a vaginal birth.

No one tells you the ugly stuff. Everyone made it seem like skipping through a meadow of posies. It's not.
Read a book called Pregnancy Sucks. It's hilarious and it tells you all the things to expect that no one wants to admit to after.

I love the fact that I'm having a baby, I don't love the process, but every person is different.

They say you forget all the bad stuff once your baby arrives....I hope that's true, otherwise we're adopting the next one! :-)

Yeah, morning sickness. I thought morning sickness was something where you just didn't feel well for a couple days around when your period was due. I didn't know it was "for me" 6 weeks of shear nausea, vomiting, all- day sickness...just, "yuck, I don't think I can make it" feeling. haha Was I surprised when I found out some women have it the entire pregnancy...I thought it would never end.

What nobody told me was how absolutely disgusting I would feel after having the baby....they can tell you in medical terms about discharge and discomfort, etc., but that does not begin to cover living through it!! You get over it, and it is completely worth it, but at the time, it was enough to make me swear I would never do it again (I'm about to do it for the 3rd time, so the memory really does fade, promise!) lol

No one ever told me my belly button would not be round anymore.

That I was strong enough to deliver babies without pain pill and epidurals (Had to discover that one myself)

That your belly will feel like jello for a few weeks after birth

That my feet could grow a size from the ligaments being stretched out

That the urge to push feels a lot like needing to have a bowel movement.

Lastly no one told me I would fall in love instantly with my new baby!

Good luck

When I was pregnant with my first child, everyone talked about how long they were in labor and what hospital and doctors they used, what kind of creams they used to avoid stretch marks, baby name books, the best car seats to get, etc... no one ever mentioned how painful contractions could be and that after giving birth you bleed for weeks and can't use tampons or have sex.
