What's the best way to tell if the message was read?

some phones have features taht show if it is in send mode, or received, or not going thru.

You can't. You can use reports but that only tells you that the message was received, doesn't mean they opened it or read it. Ask them. Or call instead of texting.

Delivery reports tell you that the message has been delivered at the receiver's mobile........ but to find out if he/she has read it or not...........I think you should wait for that technology to come.....or take the services of some personal detective agency.........lol

you can have your network send you a text that tells you if the message has been read, recived, sent by going into text options
its usally called a deliverly report

There's not one, that I know of. Some phones have delivery notes that tell that they were delivered successfully. But to know if it was read, you would have to ask them. :)

some phones give you a status indicator in your sent file.
