How about the Lullaby Light Show or a Radio Flyer Retro Rocket Tot Vehicle? I'm sure he'll enjoy them both. You can also get him some Baby Einstein Educational DVDs, Playskool Weebles, Playskool Busy Ball Popper, Playskool Busy Basics Step Start Walk 'N Ride, or Playskool Swing and Score Baseball.

A walking toy...that he can get behind and push. A table that they can climb up on and play with...my daughter has the Elmo one, and she loved it when she was that age. Books, shape sorters, stacking rings if he doesn't already have that kind of stuff.
For outdoors, my daughter has a trike that she is just now able to ride (almost 3). So, you might want to wait on a trike, but it is up to you. You could try a slide or swing set, but you would have to hlep him with it. A basketball goal, and you can help him throw the ball into the basket. Sidewalk chalk if you don't think he will eat it. Bubbles.

Your 14 yr old SON huh? Well, however you look at it that's undoubtly a VERY delicate situation. Rather than YOU picking something out why don't you let HIM pick it out. You could wrap up a "Gift Certificate" and give it to him now, before Christmas then he knows how much he can spend and then take him shopping or let him shop online. That way he could wear the dress ON Chriistmas. You could always wrap it up so he has to wait til Christmas or get a little accessory to go with the outfit he's picked and let him unwrap that!!!

Trikes are at least another year away. 18 months is about when you should start using the ride-on toys. Soft, cloth books (Don't have to worry about slobber ruining the pages), stuffed animals, infant learning games, etc.

10 months old ? How about a few cardboard boxes ? Your car keys ? Any tv or video remote controls ? That's all my kids played with at that age, despite all the gifts we bought. Anything they could put in their mouths was good fun. That and the wrapping paper.

The playskool ball bopper toy. All kids love that. Seriously.
Unless they can ride them in the house, dont get him a ride on that he cant use until then, Although they do make those combos that they can push first.

since your son will be less than a year old, you can't go wrong with clothes. And any thing that he can play with while laying on the floor worked great for my son at that age. Maybe a play matt?
