I asked this because while I mentioned discrimination was immoral and should not be allowed in the U.S., someone replied that "you can't stop discrimination and the it was good for the economy."

I need to know if this is somehow true!

Non-merit based discrimination harms the economy. It leads to a inefficient allocation of resources and jobs. If skilled and valuable workers are prevented from contributing for arbitrary reasons like their gender or race the economy loses out on that untapped potential.

Discrimination other than that concerned with qualifications has no place in any economy, and cannot help the economy. Unless he means that discrimination against people who don't have the necessary qualifications don't get a job, discrimination does not help the economy whatever. Saying that certain groups of people are more hardworking etc is just stereotyping.

well you need to contextualize it. discrimination occurs all the time. a job requiring skilled laborers to operate arent going to hire a person that doesnt know anything about it. Discrimination against race and sex are the bad kind of discrimation. its one of the reasons we have stupid thing like war or hate crimes all just because color of skin. Lets see if you are against another race when you need a organ and the other race is whats available. are you going to be thick headed?
We have so much to learn from another race- we might find new ways to enjoy life- or new medicines to treat certain diseases but some people hate others just because of skins- well i think its stupid.
