My friend's fiancee has the most horrible family; they are crude and often are mean to her. She has agreed to go on holiday with them next week (where they will stay in a cottage all together!) but really doesn't want to go. She has spoken to her boyfriend but he refuses to believe there is anything wrong with his family and doesn't see the problem. They have been together for 6 years. What should she do?

Deal with it or move on. What else can she do? If he doesn't see a problem, and they don't seem to like her, she either has to deal with them forever if she marries him, with him in denial, or she needs to move on and find a guy with a nicer family.

This is something only she can fix. Unfortunately, I have the same problem with my family. I feel like they are constantly trying to drag me down to their level. For years and years I put up with it.
It was my husband who finally made me realize that i didn't have to put up with it. It took some time but I am finally to the piont where I can hang up the phone if something starts to upset me and go about my business as if nothing has happened.
A couple of years ago, I moved out of state. This may not be the right answer for your friend but te distance helps. She needs to develp some kind of barrier against them and realize that she is grown and can live a good life with or without their approval.

Sometimes you just have to buck up and do it.
Stay away as much as possible and try to be nice when you have to. It is part of the relationship package...the family comes along with the mate.

Uhhhh, Not marry him?!? In-laws don't go away! and blood is thicker than water...trust me.
