After all, It was BECUASE of HIS discovery of right and left handed molecules, that Dr. Salk discovered the POLIO vaccination. it was BECAUSE of Pasteur, there was PENICILLAN!!

Pasteur's study into the nature of tartaric acid was done in 1849. There is no doubt that this was the very first study of chemical stereoisomerization. He is probably known as the Father of immunochemistry, not organic chemistry.

Antoine Laurent Lavoisier was the first to systematically study the structure that became known as chemical compounds in the 1780's. This included many organic compounds.

Friedrich Wöhlers synthesis of urea in 1828 brought an end to the concept of vitalism (the vis vitalis) being necessary for organic (and later biochemical) composition.

Jöns Jakob Berzelius coined the term "organic chemistry" in 1807. He came up with the first concepts of polymers and isomers in 1833.

Jean Baptiste André Dumas did most of his synthetic and analytical work on organic compounds in the 1830's and 1840's. He corrected several of Berzelius's concepts.

There is a lot more to organic chemistry than isomers.

Organic Chemistry is more than Stereochemistry, it is also about understanding the very linkages and how these linkages distinguish Organic from Inorganic compounds. Werner who synthesized Urea from Ammonium Cyanate played a more pivotal role.

He did discover handedness in molecules, but in the air? I don't think so. He is more one of the founders of biochemistry and modern medicine than he is organic chemistry.

Possibly because W. H. Perkin beat him to it.

You can call him as the "founding father of stereochemistry" if you want;)

probably because Pasteur was unfashionably devout as a believing Christian
